Special Programs in Nature from Cape Cod Walks

A Woman of Many Hats

Bethany Gibbons of The Barnstaple Patriot, wrote an article on Lee Roscoe when reviewing one of her plays, "The Shame of Daniel Shays'. Ms. Gibbons' comments about the author are telling. "As author, playwright, environmentalist, actress, peace activist and even fashion designer, Roscoe has worn many hats, and she brings to all her endeavors a probing intellect and earnest enthusiasm. Thoughtful, articulate, and joyful, Roscoe is the kind of person who illuminates her subjects with infectious passion."

Your Host

Lee Roscoe is your host for these amazing excursions into nature and history. She developed SPIN as a nature consultancy that creates original and holistic programs for all ages, teaching the community of whole habitats - linking habitats with each other and with the seasons; linking nature with history. SPIN also teaches the modular pieces of natural history - birds, botany, bugs, et al.

SPIN's indoor/outdoor classroom and field trip programs interact with the environment, using the arts as well as the sciences to create an exciting living experience of nature.

Some publications include "The Comfort of Herbs" . "Dreaming Monomoy's Past, Walking its Present" and the definitive article on Fireflies for Massachusetts Wildlife magazine. Click here to download a PDF of the article on Fireflies.

Among her many adventures, she believes that one of the most rewarding was working with children in a year long, season by season, nature series. Children were taught all about the natural environments found on Cape Cod and participated in field trips to local parks, nature sites and beaches in the area.

Lee is the recipient of 3 (WHSTPS) Woods Hole Science and Technology Education Partnership grants for her teaching, a shared USEPA award for her work founding KUSP a grass roots organization which saved 300 acres around Santuit Pond, and a commendation from the Massachusetts State legislature.

Lee brought "Outdoors Skills for Women" to southeast Massachusetts, was a long time event liaison for "Becoming an Outdoorswoman" and  for the "Massachusetts Outdoors Expo."

She has also been an Aquatic Education assistant for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and helped to edit their fishing manual.
